Friday's Favorite Look 6.7

A bright sunny yellow always makes me feel happy - it's a fun color to wear, and heading into summer, it's perfectly in season.  I love this gown on Kerry Washington from this week's CFDA Awards - a bold color that really makes a statement.  I also can't stop staring at the amazing wood Lanvin clutch she is carrying - how unique and daring!!

Cannes Red Carpet

I am a little late on this, but I couldn't miss out on dishing about the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival.  After last year, when Diane Kruger wowed with every turn, I was excited to see who would stun this year.  While I didn't find one person that was a sure-fire standout, I did choose 2 looks from Freida Pinto, so she goes down as my favorite this year.  Also, a big white trend on the red carpet - lots of amazing white looks, signalling summer!

My first favorite look from Freida Pinto - this shimmering Sanchita Ajjampur gown.
I love this side shot of Emma Watson.  This Chanel dress was wonderful on her, both glamorous and age-appropriate.
A brighter hue on Freida Pinto this time, from Gucci.
This is the best I have seen Nicole Kidman look in ages - this graphic print from L'Wren Scott is perfect on her.  And the hair is gorgeous!
A daring white look on Solange Knowles, from Stephane Rolland.
Another white look - I love this feminine Alexander McQueen dress on Marion Cotillard.  Always a favorite!

The Colors

When you get married, one of the questions that everyone asks you is, "What are your colors?"  It's kind of funny question (so many other things are just as important), and always reminds me of the movie Steel Magnolias when one of the characters says, "My colors are blush and bashful."  It also took me a while to come up with the colors, since it has an effect on a lot of the wedding... dresses, table settings, flowers, etc.
One way that I got the brainstorming started was with paint chips.  It made it easier to visualize some of the colors I liked together.

My first palette, with a broader range of colors I liked.
My final palette, focused on oranges, yellows, and greys.

Now that I have my palette, it's all coming together... we picked our linens and finalized flowers based on this and are working on invitations.  It's funny how a few paint chips can pull everything together!  The wedding planning continues...

Met Gala Faves

Like many of you fashion fans out there, I loooovvve the Met Gala!  It always ends up being one of the most exciting red carpet nights of the year, with many people taking chances and stepping out in new and interesting looks.  Last night's gala was no exception, especially with the Punk theme this year.  While there were lots of fabulous gowns, there were also a few that took the theme too far (I'm looking at you, Madonna!).  Here are a few of my faves...

Rooney Mara in Givenchy, with Riccardo Tisci
 Kirsten Dunst in Louis Vuitton

 SJP in Giles Deacon
 Katie Holmes in Calvin Klein

 Jennifer Lawrence in Dior

Carey Mulligan in Balenciaga

One of the colors I keep seeing everywhere this spring is cobalt blue.  It's such a fun fresh color, that isn't just for spring, but can be easily outfitted year-round.  Formerly known as boring old "royal blue", this color has become a huge trend.   I love way that most fabrics take this bold color so easily, and it can add punch to any outfit.  Here are a few of the cobalt pieces I have been loving lately...

This weekend bag from Baggu is just what I need for Summer getaways.  The cobalt color makes a statement in the simple canvas.
This J.Crew maxi dress looks both sophisticated and comfortable, just the type of dress you can dress up or down all Summer.
I already own these cobalt Rockstar skinny jeans from Old Navy.  I love wearing them with black and white!

I am obsessed with these Loeffler Randall flats - in fact, I ordered them yesterday!!

Cobalt suede is always beautiful.  This Clare Vivier clutch will pop any look.

This cobalt maxi skirt from Gap has the right amount of ease for any outfit.  Great with flat sandals!

Friday's Favorite Look 4.5

I saw this image on The Sartorialist weeks ago, and haven't stopped thinking about it.  The title of his post was "The Three Coolest Ladies at Louis Vuitton, Paris."  I just love the sophisticated layering of this woman's look; the color palette is neutral and refined, yet the leather jacket gives it an edge.  This is a look that I will definitely be looking to try myself!

Wedding Dress Source: Bhldn

It's about time for a wedding-related post.  I have been a little delinquent in writing lately, and part of that is due to the wedding.  I am happy to say that our plans are progressing, and one thing on my list that is checked off is The Dress!  That's right, I found my wedding dress.  In my quest to find the perfect one, one of the sources I loved was  And while I didn't end up getting my dress there, it was fantastic for shopping and inspiration.  Here are a few of my favorite dresses on the site...

It's very fitting that this gown is called the "Bouvier", because it is exactly the simple and elegant silhouette that someone like Jackie Kennedy would wear.
A little sparkle is a must on your wedding day!  I love the glamour of this gown.
This gown was instantly my fave on the whole Bhldn site - I love the romantic look and the gorgeous chiffon fabric.

I love the idea of a short dress!  I tried on a few while on my search, but I decided it wasn't right for our wedding.  This one is fabulous - just the right amount of drama!
The shape of this dress is so lovely, and I love the texture and the little hit of color at the waist.

I can't wait to share pictures of my actual dress after the wedding!!
