Friday's Favorite Look 9.30

Happy Friday everyone!  I am taking a risk today with Friday's Favorite Look by featuring none than... ME!  I haven't done the "outfit post" thing much, but Elisabeth was kind enough to take this photo of me at last night's absolutely fantastic fashion show at Mira Mira, and I couldn't help think that maybe today was the day to try it out.

What I'm wearing... Dress: J.Crew, Shoes: Loeffler Randall, Jewelry: J.Crew, Madewell, Chan Luu, Lime, Forever 21 (and my Goyard bag hiding in the corner!)

We'll see how it goes with this first outfit post, maybe I will do more in the future!

New Alexa Chung for Madewell

Okay, I know I am a bit late to the party on the new Alexa Chung line for Madewell, but since I just got back from vacation, I couldn't go without saying at least a little about it.  And how fabulous it is!  I was a fan of the first line, and bought a cute navy jacket that I love to wear.  So of course I was rapt with anticipation when the new line came out and couldn't wait to see all of the pieces.  Here are the favorites that I need (read: want) to have.

From the top: patrice gold lace top, cassie crewneck sweater, desert sessions dress (love the low back), carine dress, suede pixie jacket (so cool).  My only sadness is that I missed the opening party and appearance by Alexa at our SF store last week.  Did anyone go?  Did you meet her?  It would have been fabulous!

Snapshots

After a fantastic vacation in Cabo, I am relaxing at home today and thinking about our trip.  I wanted to share a few snapshots of the beautiful place we stayed, fun things we did, and some local scenes.  I am already missing the sunshine (back to the SF clouds...), the pool, margaritas, and of course delicious Mexican food.  And being on vacation - when is our next one??

The beautiful beach and infinity pool at our hotel, the Grand Solmar (paradise)

 A view of Cabo's harbor

A few shots from the wall decor at Mi Casa restaurant (delicious food!)

 Beautiful tiled stairs

A view of the famous arch while on our sunset cruise

Our silhouettes with the last of the sunset

The twinkly garden setting of La Golondrina restaurant (a must-go for Cabo!!)

Our last dinner in Cabo, relaxing after a huge seafood feast.

A view of Medano beach, from the Mango Deck restaurant (while drinking our last margaritas)

Packing for Mexico

Packing for a trip is definitely not one of my favorite activities, even when I am completely excited about the trip itself.  I tend to over-pack so it takes some outfit planning and editing to get just the right amount.  My current vacation to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico inspired me to share some of my favorite looks that I packed.

First up, I love this look for a casual day out walking on the beach or in town.  I haven't been to Cabo before, and I am looking forward to exploring!  (Old Navy printed ruffle tank, Gap shorts and coral t-strap sandals)

Of course I am going to spend lots of time on the beach and by the pool - this is my favorite bikini and cover-up.  (Bikini from Anthropologie, Joie tunic, Old Navy capri sandals, straw fedora from previous Mexico trip)

Lastly, I love this look for a night out with my boyfriend.  We are expecting warm nights, so a sassy dress will do the trick with some sandals.  (Robbi and Nikki dress, J.Crew cardi, vintage Whiting and Davis gold clutch, Matt Bernson gladiator sandals)

That's all for now - more to come when I get back from my vacation!  Adios!

NYFW: And My Favorite Collection Is...

Okay I had to pick 2 collections!  First up is Vena Cava - I have always been a fan of their inventive, bold looks.  And this most recent collection is no different - I loved the hip factor of the color palette, the various prints, the chic separates.  I felt like these looks would be perfect for a fabulous vacation - always looking great no matter the occasion.

The other collection that I completely loved was Jenny Packham.  So very different from the Vena Cava line above, Jenny's collection was airy and light, feminine and very ethereal.  The color palette was mostly pastel, with a very brighter tones at the end, very Spring.  It actually flowed in order of color which added to how cohesive the whole line was.  I couldn't help but love the light feeling that it gave me when I saw the looks.

Friday's Favorite Look 9.16

After a week of devouring all things NYFW, I had to choose a look from the runway for this week's favorite look.  I couldn't take my eyes off of this amazing Zac Posen green gown - from the color to the details on the bodice to the daring hip structure, it was all so fresh and beautiful!

And stay tuned for next week, when I reveal my favorite collection from fashion week!  Have a great weekend, everyone!

NYFW: Christian Siriano, Still Fierce

As a long-time fan of Project Runway, I was intrigued and excited to see what Christian Siriano would show at NYFW.  I remember his "fierce" days on the show, and the many eccentric and unique looks that he produced, all amazing but not always commercial or understandable.  The first thing that impressed me was the color palette: yellow, coral, and neutrals like shades of taupe, grey, and white.  No black!!  Definitely a plus.  I loved the ladylike maxi skirts and dresses, and the layers of texture that brought drama to certain looks.  The show ended with the expected ball gowns, but it was worth the wait.  I heard mixed reviews of Christian's collection, but I am definitely a fan... he seems all grown up to me!

I Can't Wait!

In case you haven't heard, Alexa Chung is doing a second collection with Madewell.  I could not be more excited!  And while I will be away on vacation when it launches on September 22nd, you better believe I will be checking it out when I return.  Until then, check out these pics from the video on the Madewell site...

NYFW: Colors

Well it must be time for Spring, because the NYFW shows this week have definitely shown a lot of color... I love it!  A beautiful shade of coral, almost like a tomato red, was popular in many shows.  I love this shade as a bold way to wear red - not quite the primary shade, much more fun for spring.

 Erin Fetherston

 Derek Lam

 Lela Rose

 Peter Som

I was thrilled to see a lot of cobalt blue in the Spring shows.  This vibrant shade has been big this Fall and I love it as a new bold color, both in a full look and as an accent.

 Monique Lhullier

 Peter Som

 L.A.M.B.

 Rachel Zoe

Reem Acra

Not to be overshadowed by all these bright colors, white made a lot of appearances on the runway.  It is Spring after all, the season where white becomes important again, and lighter-weight fabrics are more prevalent.  I was also loving all the beautiful texture added to these white looks - crochet, eyelet, and embroidery.

 Charlotte Ronson

 Band of Outsiders

 Derek Lam

Prabal Gurung

Lastly, I saw a new beautiful color of purple was emerging - not a big color traditionally for Spring, but a welcome change.  There were so many primary colors on the runway, it was nice to see some beautiful shades of purple.  This is definitely a trend I hope to see continue!
