Red Carpet at the Oscars

Now that the Academy Awards are over, it's time for the real dish... who wore what on the red carpet.  I would say there was a lot of variety this year - lots of black and lots of pastels, but overall a lot of risks and different looks.  Here are some of my favorites...

Not everyone could pull off this long sleeved Elie Saab gown, but Berenice Bejo looks dazzling in it.  And mint green is such a hot color now!

I know some people thought the cape was over the top, but I thought this white Tom Ford gown on Gwyneth Paltrow was perfection.

I love Michelle Williams in red - it's the perfect pop of color for her offbeat style.  I have to say I thought the clutch was a miss - the miniaudiere style is fine, but I don't love the color.

I actually thought this Vivienne Westwood dress on Rose Byrne was black, but come to find out it's midnight blue.  Love it even more now!  And that sassy bob... fabulous.

Even though Viola Davis didn't win Best Actress, I really thought this green Vera Wang gown stole the show.  Such unique details, and the color was an amazing compliment to her skintone.  Well done!!

Okay I do have to touch on a few of my least favorites... there weren't many but it has to be said.  Better luck next year, ladies!

I know some people loved this bold look on Emma Stone, but I thought the giant bow was too much.

Kristen Wiig was totally washed out by this dress, and it was too similar to the dress she wore to the Golden Globes.  Go with some color!

The dress that Shailene Woodley chose was way too casual, almost space-age.  Not a great choice for this year!

So that's a wrap - were you happy with the winners?  I had "The Artist" as my top pick, so I was glad to see that win Best Picture.  And although I was disappointed that Viola Davis didn't win, I thought Meryl Streep's performance was worth an Oscar too.  Cheers to the winners!!

The Event of the Year...

...If I do say so myself! Ha! That's right - it's Oscar Party time.  This year was my second year hosting an Oscar Party, a tradition I took over from a dear friend who moved to Brooklyn.  I felt like I was in the groove this year, with some experience under my belt, and with a new location I could try a few new things.  Here are some pics of my event!

The living room all prepped for the big day!

The home of the food - my dining room full of eats.

And champagne glasses - the fridge was stocked!  Love these vintage glasses - I got some from the Alemany flea market and the rest as a gift from my boyfriend's sister.

The front hall as the Walk of Fame

On the red carpet, as Peppy from "The Artist"

And with my friend Jocelyn, as Celia from "The Help".

The guests fill out their ballots.  Prizes were at stake!!

I'm glad I could share some of this day with you!  I am already planning next year's party and how I might shake it up... Stay tuned tomorrow for my Oscar red carpet picks!

NYFW: Layering

As the fall weather gets cooler, it's all about layering.  Or if you live in San Francisco, that applies to all year round!  I loved all the new layering looks on the runway at NYFW, especially those from Rag and Bone.  What a great way to mix patterns and different textures and still pull off a chic look to beat the cooler weather.  This was definitely one of my favorite shows of the whole week!

NYFW: Dramatic Outerwear

Fall runway shows mean one thing: new amazing outerwear trends.  The outerwear in the Altuzarra show was extremely impressive - dramatic in its silhouettes, its color, and its fabrications.  The rest of each look in the show was great too, but it was the parkas, peacoats, and blazers that I couldn't stop noticing.

Friday's Favorite Look 2.17

After pouring over NYFW looks all week, I had to post a look from the Kate Spade show that I saw over on Glitter Guide.  As always all of the looks from Kate Spade were fantastic but this one takes the cake... love the cheeky tee with the feminine skirt.  Extra points for the polka dot nails!

ps - see additional fantastic pics on eat.sleep.wear, including some must-have shoes!

NYFW: Ladylike and Sophisticated

Two of my favorite shows so far from NYFW represent both ladylike and sophisticated looks.  Lela Rose continued her tradition of feminine dressing with a beautiful Fall collection of ladylike dresses and mostly neutral tones, mixed with brights of marigold, orange, and bordeaux.

I also loved Rebecca Taylor's collection, which veered away from her usual bright prints and instead took on a dark sophistication.  Rebecca's collection was infused with darker tones, lots of texture, and more of a digital print direction.  I loved this different take on her usual style!
